Holiday Traditions that Never Die

Are you at times astonished by the holiday traditions that your family has passed down for generations and they never seem to stop? Most people in the world have at least one thing that always happens when they have celebrations, whether for the family only or for the rest of the world as well. Some of these are carried on even when a sizeable number of the initiators have passed on and a new generation has come up in the family. They take time to teach the new members and this becomes a trend that goes on.

For instance, some families must brew beer during celebrations. Whether it is Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day or any other occasion, the family follows a step-by-step recipe. It is sort of a ritual to make sure that the product smells and tastes like the one made the previous year or the year before that. That is one way through which some of the world famous recipes have remained as family secrets because the members learn them and master the skill with time. It is also a habit for most families to roast turkey for Christmas dinners. It becomes a routine and if something else is served, they will not have a good Christmas dinner. Whether this bird is expensive or is out of stock, the tradition must be followed.

Other holiday traditions revolve around the Easter theme.

The bunnies and the eggs seem to take the center stage in any shop display, house or parties. As if that is not enough, the egg hunt dominates the Easter games for most children. This means that a party host has to take time to design the map for the egg hunt, whether it will take place indoors or outdoors. In addition, costumes seem to be the most common of all holiday traditions. From St. Patrick’s, Halloween to the Christmas celebrations, there is always an element of costumes. People take time to design unique homemade costumes while others who want to show up in style, buy costumes that might not be used in the next year because they will either be too small or out of date. The only costume that seems to stick in the same design and color is the Santa costume. It is always red with a bit of white here and there, whether it is for a Santa in Africa, Europe or Asia.  The wicked of these creations is the Halloween costumes that present the scariest ideas if a person is to remain relevant amongst all others.

On the other hand, some holiday traditions offer a great chance to please family members or friends.

For instance, giving gifts is one of the best moments in any celebration. Every person in the party or event waits anxiously for their turn expecting that the giver has taken time to think about the receiver’s needs. Gifts show the compassion side of the celebration amidst the feasting, merry making and socializing and should thus be given attention amongst all holiday traditions.
